Starling

The starlings likes to eat bread, apples, insects, peanuts, oats and bird seeds.  Brown bread is the best for birds. They also eat bird suet.

Starlings are common in urban areas, and are frequent visitors to gardens and parks.
Starlings like to fly in groups.  They are noisy, lively birds.  A group of starlings is called a "murmuration".

The starling has a sharp beak.   It is brownish black, but it has oily feathers so it sometimes looks greenish-blue. It has a speckled breast and back.

  1. That is a lovely post on little, speckled starlings. You can see huge flocks of these birds at Bray Harbour and at the beach. These birds are loud, chattery and noisy and have the talent to mimick any noise.

    MORE BIRDWATCHING NEWS:
One birdwatching day in People's Park I observed a heron catch and eat a fish, I saw a juvenile heron wade with a parent...

AND I CAUGHT A GLIMPSE OF A KINGFISHER - a rare, shy, secretive river bird.
I also saw a rare, country corncrake bird in flight. These birds are almost extinct. The corncrake has lovely camouflage. These birds are amazing to see and I have researched more about the kingfisther.

    Best Wishes,

  2. Hello Class,
Here's another bit of Starling fact. In the Spring, the Starling's bill turns from a
dark colour to yellow in the female, and
yellow with a blue-ish base in the male. So, from your photograph you can see two males
    and a female.
    Dermot.
